Veterinary pharmacovigilance: ANSES facilitates on-line reporting of adverse effects
The French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES) today launches a new version of its on-line declaration website for veterinary pharmacovigilance. This website was created to collect reports of adverse effects linked to, or potentially linked to, the use of veterinary medicinal products. It now offers new functions that make it easier to use, thus improving the detection of adverse effects.
The French Agency for Veterinary Medicinal Products, as part of ANSES, is in charge of delivering marketing authorisations for veterinary medicinal products as well as post-authorisation follow-up for these products. It is therefore responsible for the veterinary pharmacovigilance system, whose goal is to collect reports of adverse effects and more effectively describe them in animals. Reporting adverse effects enables the risks and benefits of veterinary medicinal products to be monitored continually once they are placed on the market, so that they may be used safely.
ANSES has now updated its site for reporting adverse effects in animals to simplify the online reporting procedure: pharmacovigilance-anmv.anses.fr (in French)
With this new version, users can create an account enabling them to enter personal data automatically, view their report history, save draft reports and complete them later, etc. Relevant documents to help investigate the reports can also be attached (lab results, photos, etc.). In addition, this new site will now provide the list of all veterinary medicinal products authorised in France, which will facilitate data input for users since they will now be able to select the products from the list instead of having to type in the name by hand.
Furthermore, data input now takes into account the specificities of group practices and of each organised production sector.
This new on-line reporting site is compatible with the main web browsers for PC and Mac, and is also accessible on smart phones and tablets using iOS or Android.
This more user-friendly version of the website means that ANSES can gain heightened knowledge of veterinary medicinal products in order to benefit animals, their owners and all those involved in animal health.
The French Agency for Veterinary Medicinal Products (ANMV) is an integral part of ANSES, and it ensures a wide range of activities in the veterinary pharmaceuticals field. To carry out its missions, it has been given scientific assessment, surveillance and decision-making powers. The ANMV is in charge of providing authorisations for veterinary medicinal products. It also coordinates inspections of veterinary pharmaceutical companies and monitors the pharmacovigilance system. And finally, it provides veterinary drug quality monitoring and control.
